I initially thought this was a Clark's Nutcracker, but it looked smaller and more brown than the gray I've come to associate with Clark's. I initially titled this "Mystery Bird," and Shelley Myke came through with the right name: Gray Jay (Perisoreus canadensis) It's a small bird, about half the size of a Steller's Jay or Western Scrub Jay - and much braver than either, so I'd never thought to even look under jays. Found atop Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park in the state of Washington, USA.

Hi Sean- This is a Grey Jay some also call it a Whiskey Jack. I have one on my site under Feathered Friends if you would like to see it for ID purposes. A lovely image Sean. Nicely done.
Sean Griffin replied:
You nailed it, Shelley ! It was so small and so brave (one landed on my wife's hand) I never thought to look under "jays" for identification. Thank you!
