Description
The naturalist John Muir described the summer wildflower bloom atop the 14,401-foot volcano known as Mount Rainier as "the most luxuriant and the most extravagantly beautiful of all the alpine gardens I ever beheld." Here, just east of Myrtle Falls above Paradise on the southern flank of the mountain, may have been one of the fields he beheld, offering a dense profusion of subalpine lupine, magenta paintbrush, spreading phlox and avalanche lilies.
