Description
Spring arrives on 14,401-foot Mount Rainier in the middle of July and only sticks around for a month or so. Among the wildflowers that appear almost immediately after snowmelt are the purple Subalpine Lupine (Lupinus arcticus) and Magenta Paintbrush (Castilleja parviflora), including these found above Paradise Valley on the south flank of the volcano.
