Description
A harbinger of Spring, the flowering shrub manzanita (genus Arctostaphylos) puts out its first blossoms in winter and continues doing so into Spring. The fairy bell-shaped blooms, once pollinated develop into small berries that look like miniature apples; hence the name manzanita - Spanish for "little apple."
