The SR-509 Bridge crossing the Thea Foss Waterway in Tacoma, Washington, is one of only 13 cable-stayed bridges in the United States -- and the largest west of the Mississippi River. It was completed in 1997, with towers 180 feet tall and twin spans of 707 feet.
